I’d never heard of Longineau Parsons till a good friend turned me on to this ‘Monster’ drummer. Soft spoken and unassuming, his playing easily ranks him among the greatest percussionists of all time. Needless to say, I will be adding more of his work to this site in the near future – check it.

In February (?) of 2000, a close friend who knew keyboardist, Jay Oliver fairly well, invited me to a small club on Vine (?) to photograph the group during their live performance. On guitar, notably, was Buzz Feiten who I’d seen play at the Cafe Au Go Go’s Blues Bag Concert when I was thirteen years old. Like many of the more ‘creatively inclined’ blues players (he was playing for Paul Butterfield then), Buzz gravitated toward a more fusion-oriented sound. It must’ve been 1994; I’d been in rehearsal -for the better part of a year- with Zen Mambo a group I co-founded with bassist Tony Villas. Tony, it seems, studied alongside Vernon Reid at the Creative Music Center in Woodstock. They did remain in contact apparently, since we were extended guest passes to see Living Colour at the Academy of Music on 14th street in N.Y.C..
I really didn’t know what to expect; I knew Vernon would be good, but with Cory, Will, and Muzz on hand, the passion and the chemistry was, indeed mind-blowing…
